Inner Healing 7: Filling the Cup

  1. Recapitulation of the healing process

    1. Pour out the pain (remove the pus). Jesus did Psalm 22 ,  Psalm 62:8. ; 1 Samuel 1:15 ,18 ; Lamentations 2:19
    2. Cancel the debt (forgive), (apply antiseptic) ( Matthew 6:14-15)
    3. Receive consolation (surgery: arrange it and adjust the damaged parts)
    4. Thanksgiving, Praise (you close the wound) (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
    5. * Must become a habit

  2. The reality of our emptiness

    Remember it is of little good to heal your glass if we do not tackle the problem of the void —something that only God can fill.
    1. Emotional void 5 emotional needs (Session 3)
    2. My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water. (Jeremiah 2:13)
    3. Jesus answered her, ÏF you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.¨ "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life. (John 4:10-14)

  3. How does God fill up the void?

    Are you not a Christian yet? Don't you have your quiet time with God yet? Don't you walk in holiness?

    1. You need to receive the Holy Spirit

      1. It is he whom God uses to make us feel his love
        1. ¨Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.¨ By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. (John 7:37-39)
        2. God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5:5)
      2. You receive him when receiving the salvation (believing in the gospel)
        1. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God´s possession- to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14)
        2. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
        3. You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. (Romans 8:9)
      3. How salvation is received? 
        Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. ¨The time has come,¨he said. ¨The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!¨ (Mark 1:14-15)
        1. You have to repent: surrender your life (your dreams, your thinking, your traditions, your speech, your actions) to His Lordship.
        2. Believe in the Gospel: God became flesh in the person of Jesus Christ, died for our sins and rose again to give us forgiveness and eternal life.

    2. You need to develop a communion, a relationship with God

      1. God's fullness must be seeked daily
        1. As the deer pants for streams of water, so pants for you, O God, my soul.  My soul thirsts for God, the living God; When shall I come and appear before God? (Psalm 42:1-2 )
        2. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. (Psalm 90:14)
        3. Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. ( Psalm 143:8 )
        4. Yet the news about him spread all the more, so the crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. (Luke 5:15-16)
        5. Very early, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. (Mark 1:35)
        6. From his fullness  we have all received grace upon grace ... God no one has ever seen; the only begotten Son, who is God and lives  in intimate union with the Father , has made him known. (John 1:18)
        7. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. (Psalm 23:5)
        8. You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you, I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods, with singing lips my mouth will praise you. (Psalm 63:1-5)
      2. How do you have fellowship with God
        1. Reading the Bible 
          ... It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his fellow Isrealites and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:19-20)
          1. Right now perhaps you will love Him because of a decision, but emotions will flow to love Him when you know this wonderful God we have.
        2. Prayer 
          My heart has heard you say, "Come and talk to me." And my heart responds, "Here I come,  Lord ." (Psalm 27:8)
          1. A working prayer 
            In a level with matters of work and own tasks of roles: intercessory prayer
          2. A prayer for your delight 
            At another level focuses on the two of you, in enjoying each other, in having intimacy: devotional prayer
            • One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple... My heart says of you, "Seek his face!¨ (Psalm 27:4,8)
            • Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. (Psalm 73:25)
            • Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than dwell in the tents of the wicked. (Psalm 84:10)
            • Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. (Psalm 62:8)
            • Pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord (Lamentations 2:19)
        3. Worship 
          Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. (John 4:23-24 )
          1. I have this against you : You have forsaken your first love (Revelations 2:4)
          2. He jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us? (James 4:5)
          3. The love with which you loved me may be in them (John 17:26 ; Matthew 3:17)
      3. What hinders communion
        1. Not to practice accountability with God, 
          1. But your iniquities have separated you from your God, your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. (Isaiah 59:2)
          2. If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. (Psalm 66:18)
          3. Then they will cry out to the Lord, but he will not answer them. At that time he will hide his face from them because of the evil they have done. (Micah 3:4)
          4. When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you, eve when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood! (Isaiah 1:15)  
          5. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. (Colossians 1:21)
          6. You Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. (1 Peter 3:7)
          7. and forgive us our sins,  as we have forgiven those who sin against us ... If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you; but if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. ( Matthew 6:12, 14-15)

  4. Characteristics of an empty vessel

    1. We use wrong ways to fill it out

      If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:1-3)
      1. You use things of this world to satisfy it
        Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life- comes not from the Father but from the world.  (1 John 2:15-16)
      2. Through pleasures 
        What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don´t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. You adulterous people, don´t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. (James 4:1-4)
      3. Seeking human approval
        Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believes in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue, for they loved human praise more than praise from God. (John 12:42-43)
      4. Search for human praise 
        Be careful not to do your righteousness before men to attract attention [ for others to admire you ] . If you act this way your Father who is in heaven will not give you any reward. (Matthew 6:1, 6:5, 23:5)
      5. Position or status
        Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue, for they loved human praise more than praise from God. (Mark 12:38-39)
      6. Titles They love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ¨Rabbi¨ by others. (Matthew 23:7)
      7. Money 
        Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. ( 1 Timothy 6:17-18)
      8. Comparisons 
        You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? For when one says "I follow Paul" and another, "I follow Apollos,¨ are you not mere human beings? (1 Corinthians 3:3-4)
      9. Manipulation
        When you think the things you want will satisfy you: things, a lifestyle, etc. 
        The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Isrealites started wailing and said, Ïf only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost -also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. But now we have lost our appetite, we never see anything but this manna! Moses heard the people of every family wailing at the entrance to their tents. The Lord became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled. (Numbers 11:4-6, 10)

    2. Symptoms of an empty heart

      The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like. (Galatians 5:19-21)
      1. Envy (jealousy)
        As you acquire your sense of value comparing yourself with others, you resent when someone else stands out or does better than you
      2. Selfishness
        As you have an emotional void, you only meet your needs without considering the needs of others.
      3. Infatuation
        Most "crushes" (when the person is stuck with another), are actually just "emotional hunger" (combined with sexual) being satisfied through the person whom they "fell in love". Therefore it is selfish and irresponsible: it focuses on the needs and desires of one and not consider the other, and leads to foolish decisions. The only important thing to consider is to meet the urgent desire (emotional hunger). You feel you can not live without the person who you "love", you fall into obsessions.
      4. The love ends
        When "the love ends" in marriage is a sign that the couple was using ti to satisfy  themselves emotionally. Love ends when your spouse inability to satisfy you comes to the surface. This "love" is not true love but infatuation mentioned above. True love is giving, not receiving and has the features of (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)
      5. Pride
        As you get your sense of worth by artificial means (position, being right, titles, money), the more you have that, you lose ground. You think you're better than those who do not have that element that gives you ¨value".
      6. Sectarianism (divisions)
        People who acquire their sense of value by "belonging" or "following" this or that group or person. You make a division and show contempt for those who are not part of your group.
      7. Grudges
        People with empty glass are like a constant dripping (Proverbs 27:15), nothing satisfies them, everything bothers them.
      8. Possessive
        this feature is developed when you are looking to satisfy your emptiness with someone.
      9. Idolatry
        When someone or something is satisfying your emotional needs, that becomes what you love most in life (idolatry: Ephesians 5:5 )
      10. Avarice
        Is a way that we use to meet our emptiness: through material things, possessions, money.
      11. Loneliness
        Loneliness is how the emotional hunger is expressed... when you feel it, you know it's time to seek God (is God calling you)
      12. Feeling inferior
        When you use comparisons to get your sense of value, it is normal to feel less than people who you "think" are more valuable or important than you because for what they have.
      13. Feeling insecure
        When the glass or vessel is empty, you can also express a sense of insecurity that seeks to compensate for one way or another.
      14. Promiscuity
        Many people fall into promiscuity for wanting to meet physical affection in the wrong way.
      15. Manipulable
        People easily manipulated most of the time is for having an empty vessel or glass: they do whatever it takes just to get some acceptance, appreciation, love.

  5. Rehabilitation process

    1. takes time

      1. He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. (1 Timothy 3:6)
      2. Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly- mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? For when one says, "I follow Paul" and another, "I follow Apollos,¨are you not mere human beings? (1Corinthians 3:1-4)

    2. Changing Habits

      1. Learning to spend time with God, quality time.
      2. Develop the habit of Bible reading and prayer.
      3. Treat others as more important than you.
      4. Congregate (go to church), serve.

    3. Change your mentality

      1. Learning how to locate your sense of worth in God, and the inheritance you have in Him
        Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. (John 13:3-4)
      2. Seeing yourself as God sees you
      3. See others as God sees them
      4. View your circumstances as God sees them

    4. Painful situations (Hebrews 12:5-6), to die to yourself (Luke 18:18-30)

      1. If you try to satisfy with friends, God could allow the rejection of them
      2. If you try to satisfy with material things, God could lead an economic calamity in your life or let bad consequences come for it, " have caused many painful wounds." (1 Timothy 6:10)
      3. If you satisfy with a relationship: He my cause a breakdown, troubles or the absence of that person
      4. If you satisfy by comparing yourself: He may cause others to prosper and you to sink
      5. If you satisfy with your ministry, he may remove it
      6. If your supply your need through the image of your self you have built: He may bring obstacles or failures.
      7. Tempted to satisfy with the approval of the people: God may cause their rejection of you.
      8. So that you may not be conceited, God may bring humiliations 
      9. If you are satisfied by how large and famous of your ministry ...
      10. If you satisfied with your job...

    5. The goal: your maturity

      1. To experience the fullness of God (not through things or circumstances)

        I have learned to be content whatever my situation. I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound; Everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

      2. To experience God´s fullness through your relationship with Him.

        But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him. (Philippians 3:7-9) Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. (Psalm 73:25)

      3. To learn to see God's love in in any circumstances

        Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: ¨For your sake we face death all day long: we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered ¨No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:35-37)

      4. To produce the fruits of the Spirit

        So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:16, 22-23)

Inner Healing 6: Healing the Cup

  1. Identification of Wounds

    1. Those you are experiencing at his time

      In your family or work or relational situation surely you are stuck in situations that can hurt you. They are the wounds that you are currently experiencing.

    2. Those you can still remember

      There are wounds of the past that we have well identified, and we can still bring to mind.

    3. The forgotten or ignored

      To enhance memory we have learned the symptoms and detonators.
      1. But recognized by the fruit or the detonator
      2. stories and tales of other persons
      3. Esperiences that God lets you live

    4. Progressive revelation

      1. You bring everything you find to heal ... but will you heal 100%?
      2. It is a process led by the Spirit
      3. The revelation of wounds, will last a lifetime.

  2. Actors

    1. Patient (wounded)

      1. It is not the person who is wounded, but the one who recognizes is wounded
      2. Not enough to recognize it, but also wanting  to heal
      3. You want to heal someone by force because their wounds are bugging your life?

    2. God (heals)

      Unlike any other humanistic therapy, the Bible teaches that God is a key character to heal the heart, because you require it:
      1. Pour out the pain:
        You have someone to turn to pour out your pain, no need of any human being. Your relationship with him is enough. You can pour it out with people (hence the rise of psychology), but the ideal is to depend on your relationship with God for this, it is part of maturity in the Christian.
      2. Receive Consolation:
        You have one comforter you do not need any human being for comfort. Yes, you can receive it through people, but, like, ideally, the goal is to Rely on God for it. It is a sign of maturity.
      3. Being filled with His love
        While it is true, that you can use people to pour out your pain, and receive consolation, only God can fill the emotional void that man has and completely satisfy it . He has an absolute monopoly on this. Remember that it is not only about emptying out your pain (healing), but being filled with love (fullness).

    3. Counselor (optional)

      1. Talk-Listen
        There are wounds that you realize that you have until you process the situation we are living while you are talking with another person about such situation. When the counselor asks you questions it helps you assimilate and see what's going on inside of you. Sometimes the counselor just listens to you while you speak to pour out your pain.
      2. Counseling 
        The counselor helps you identify symptoms or detonators that could mean the existence of a wound. There are wounds that you do not realize that others did to you because it was in the midst of intense situations and you had a lot of things going on at the same time.
      3. Teaching
        Teaches the patient the process that has to do to bring about that healing. He frees the patient in the middle of the process and when the person is freed, then he shows them how to do it by themself. 
      4. Consolation
        The counselor may be used to transmit the comfort that the wonded patient requires.
      5. Warning
        The bad advisor generates dependency, the good one, leads you to a healthy independence.

  3. Process (Psalm 22)

    1. Pour out your pain

      It is part of the relief where you pour out your heart, you express your pain. The analogy to a physical injury would be "remove the pus"
      1. Scripture:
        1. It is an ordinance
          1. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. (Psalm 62:8) 
          2. Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. (Lamentations 2:19)
          3. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6)
        2. Case of David
          1. Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! 2 Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him. (Psalm 3:1-2)
          2. Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer. (Psalm 4:1)
          3. My tears have been my food day and night,  while people say to me all day long, 'Where is your God? ". (Psalm 42:3)
        3. Case of Ana
          1. “Not so, my Lord” Hannah replied. “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer, I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. (1 Samuel 1:15)
        4. Jesus' case
          1. My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? 2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest...  But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people. 7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads. 8 “He trusts in the Lord,” they say, “let the Lord rescue him.
            Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.” (Psalm 22:1-8)                
          2. [The Messiah, at the failure to bring Israel back to God] But I said, “I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing at all. Yet what is due me is in the Lord´s hand, and my reward is with my God.” (Isaiah 49:4) 
      2. Prayer can take many forms
        1. It can take the form of a chat (Psalm 62:8)
          1. Talk about the situation you are living. 
            All who see me mock me; they hurl insults (Psalm 22:8) 
          2. Explain how you feel (turn back and see thins as you saw the when you were injured). 
            I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. (Psalm 38:8)
          3. Use analogies, exaggerations, etc. 
            But I am a worm, and not a man (Psalm 22:6)
          4. Do not defend people who hurt you, do not pray for them. 
            It 's not time for that, but to express what you feel, for you to complain and say, even, that you feel the desire to be vindicated. 
            Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the folds of your garment and destroy them! (Psalm 74:11) 
            Let evil recoil on those who slander me; in your faithfulness destroy them.(Psalm 54:5)
        2. It can take the form of request (Ephesians 4:6-7)
          1. Express what is happening to you, what you're living 
            Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! 2 Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him. (Psalm 3:1-2)
          2. Express what you feel. 
            Hear my cry! ...  I'm worried (Psalm 4:1 )
          3. You present your request 
            Turn, Lord, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.(Psalm 6:4)
        3. It may be without understandable words 
          And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers[a] in harmony with God’s own will. (Romans 8: 26-27)
          1. Weeping, wailing 
            There are times where the pain is so strong that no words come out but only tears and groans ... The idea is that you don´t do it alone but cry in the presence of God, in his lap.
          2. Languages 
            At other times when pain or distress comes, the spirit begins to pray (in tongues) and start pouring out the pain with God.
      3. What it implies
        1. Reliving the situation 
          What involves the relief is to bring back to the memory that pain, that suffering, is like stepping back in time in your mind and live it all over again.
        2. And if I don't remember? 
          You take what you felt and " you act" ... or go to the step of forgiveness. Many times you forgive by faith based on the fruit (symptom), not on a memory.
      4. The duration
        The time of release or pouring out the pain varies according to the severity of the wound. You know it´s over when you feel vented.
        1. The grieving process that God gives is up to a month
          1. When you go out to war against your enemies and the  Lord  your God delivers them into your hands and you take captives, if you notice among the captives a beautiful woman and are attracted to her, you may take her as your wife. Bring her into your home and have her shave her head, trim her nails and put aside the clothes she was wearing when captured. After she has lived in your house and mourned her father and mother for a full month, then you may go to her and be her husband and she shall be your wife.  (Deuteronomy 21:10-13)

          2. The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the time of weeping and mourning was over. (Deuteronomy 34:8)
        2. They would dress up to express their pain
          1. “Pretend you are in mourning. Dress in mourning clothes, and don’t use any cosmetic lotions. Act like a woman who has spent many days grieving for the dead. (2 Samuel 14:2)
          2. Then Jacob tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and mourned for his son many days.(Genesis 37:34)
        3. It has to end
          1. Now the Lord said to Samuel, “You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have rejected him as king of Israel, so fill your flask with olive oil and go to Bethlehem. Find a man named Jesse who lives there, for I have selected one of his sons to be my king.” ( 1 Samuel 16:1)
      5. Scenarios to do it
        1. You can do this at the moment (like Jesus on the cross, Psalm 22)
        2. Or you spend a moment alone with God
        3. Or during your devotional
        4. In the midst of your activities (Praying in tongues)
      6. with counselor
        1. He puts words in your mouth, and guides you in prayer

    2. You forgive

      Cancel the debt you have against the person that hurt you, for example, you forgive. Analogous to physical injury would be like applying antiseptic (Matthew 6:14-15). Implies a decision, for many it is very difficult, but is necessary for the healing process.
      1. Forgiveness for Justice
        This is the forgiveness that is applied by the government or by the responsible for implementing the social or organizational order.
        1. It is conditional upon their repentance. 
          If he does not repent he will pay the penalty. This forgiveness is necessarily this way because that way it safeguards the other members of someone who could harm them, and also because in this way the person can learn the lesson and change.
        2. The people that Jesus forgave, he's going to condemn them as Judge, why? because the forgiveness that he extended on the cross was for their healing. As a judge he can not forgive them and should condemn them because they have not repented.
      2. Forgiveness for Healing 
        Is the kind of forgiveness that Jesus gave: "forgive them for they do not know what they are doing". It is an individual forgiveness that is done to protect your heart, remove any negative feelings that might be stored there "bad treasures"
        1. Characteristics
          1. Unilateral 
            Do not expect them to ask you for forgiveness, you must give it from your own initiative unilaterally. This does not mean that you don't talk the issue and and help the other person see things to improve the relationship, but your should not wait for him to ask you forgiveness in order for you to forgive. Note: When you talk about the issue, you do it after healing, not before.
          2. Unconditional 
            You forgive whether the person changes or not. There is no such thing as "why bother forgiving him if he will not change?" Do not foolishly think you you can inflict pain in him with your lack of forgiveness, because you will only damage yourself. How do you live with someone who does not want to change? You learn to use his sin, his defects for your good. You treat him like a disable person, as handicap who cannot give your his hand to greet you.
          3. Specific 
            One painful act may have many facets, causing many injuries —just like a polygon has many faces. You can forgive your father because he abandoned you, but you have to forgive him for all that that implies: "never showing interest in you," "not being there in special events", "for not providing", etc.

      4. The reason for your forgiveness
        As you need mercy, you bestow it
        1. You are in debt because your sins are forgiven 
          21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
          22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.[a]
          23 “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold[b] was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.
          26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.
          28 “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins.[c] He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.
          29 “His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’
          30 “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.
          32 “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ 34 In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.          35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.” (Matthew 18: 21-35)
          1. Anything someone does against you will always be a minor offense compared to what you have done against God.
            1. It is not measured by the severity of the action, but against whom it was committed.
          2. The debt that you have with God is infinitely greater than the debt your brother has with you.
        2. If you are not aware of your mistakes in the light of His Holiness, of who He is, it will be very difficult to forgive others. 
          For I know my transgressions, and  my sin is always before me. (Psalm 51:3).
      5. Alone
        1. You can deal with the issue alone in prayer with God, "Father, I forgive that person  for having done this and that, and for making me feel so and so". You do not have to go with the person to "tell" him "I forgave you".
      6. With a Counselor
        1. He can lead you in prayer for forgiveness, or to remind you of things missing to forgive.
        2. You can make the role of the person who hurt you and forgive to his name.
      7. It is not always necessary
        1. There are situations of distress and pain that are not against anyone, but because of the circumstances that God has allowed in your life: scarcity, danger, need, or suffering for God´s cause (as Jesus)

    3. Receive consolation

      This part is typically forgotten in most workshops of emotional health, and yet it is one of the most important components, without it there is no healing. In a physical wound it would be like arranging it and adjust the damaged parts to bring them back to normal. This step also involves a decision: to believe and accept consolation.
      1. Its importance
        1. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation, if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort. (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)
          1. Every tribulation, requires comfort (v.4)
          2. The purpose of the consolation received (health), is for spreading it to others. (V.4,6)
          3. Your sufferings on earth complete the sufferings of Christ, but are offset by its abundant consolation (v.5)
          4. Comfort helps you patiently endure suffering
        3. Aware that we were going to have a hard time on earth
          I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take heart! I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
        4. He left us a Comforter 
          But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. (John 16:7)
      2. What it is
        It is not a cheap positivism that denies our difficult reality.
        1. They are words of encouragement inspired by God to bring a divine perspective to your pain, your difficulty. 
          Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. ¨Never, Lord!¨ he said. ¨This shall never happen to you!¨ Jesus turned and said to Peter, ¨Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me, you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.¨ (Matthew 16:22-23)
        2. Bring a change of mind (repentance) and you stop seeing things as a human, and start seeing them as God sees them  
          Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. That you may prove what the will of God, good, acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2)
        3. Perspective that lets you see the love, purpose and hope to the painful situation. 
          And we know that in all things God works for good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
        4. It is what changes the pain in joy 
          I will turn their mourning into joy. I will comfort them and turn their sorrow into joy. (Jeremiah 31:3)
        5. It's what puts you above situations 
          take heart! I have overcome the world. (John 16:33) ...  because everyone who is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that overcomes the world: our faith. (1 John 5:4) ... faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17)

      3. Ways in which consolation comes
        1. Words of God
          1. Direct words, helping you find the purpose for that situation
            We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. (2 Corinthians 1:8-9)
          2. Through his written Word 
            But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you. (John 14:26)  Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and have washed my hands in innocence. All day long I have been afflicted, and every morning brings new punishments. If I had spoken out like that, I would have betrayed your children. When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply till I entered the sanctuary of God. (Psalm 73: 13-17)
          3. Past experiences of other people
            In you our ancestors put their trust, they trusted and you delivered them. To you they cried out and were saved, in you they trusted and were not put to shame. (Psalm 22:4-5)
          4. Your own experiences
            Yet you brought me out of the womb, you made me trust in You, even at my mother´s breast. From birth I was cast on you, from my mother´s womb you have been my God. (Psalm 22:9-10) 
            Men of little faith, why they are talking about having no bread? 9  Do you still not understand? Do not you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you collected? 10  Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you gathered? (Matthew 16: 8-10)
          5. Promises of the future But I said, I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing at all. Yet what is due me is in the Lord´s hand, and my reward is with my God. And now the Lord says - he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord and my God has been my strength - he says: Ït is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.¨This is what the Lord says - the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel - to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the servant of rulers: ¨Kings will see you and stand up, princes will see and bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.¨ (Isaiah 49:4-7)
        2. Prayer requests with faith (Philippians 4: 6-7) 
          1. That is why I say: Believe that you have received everything you ask for in prayer, and it will be . (Mark 11:24)
          2. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. (James 1:6-8)
          3. They do not worry about anything; rather, everything by prayer and supplication, present your requests to God and give thanks. 7  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4: 6-7) 
          4. Case of Ana 
            "No, sir; I'm not drunk. I have not drunk wine or strong drink. What happens is that I am very discouraged, and came to unburden myself before the Lord ...  And she said, "I hope you see kindly to this servant of yours." And Ana went there and ate, and was no longer sad. (1 Samuel 1:15, 18)
        3. Holy imagination 
          Many times God takes you to visualize where was him in painful episodes, and even takes you to hear the words he told you at that time.
          1. Jesus: "I am with you always , to the end of the world" (Matthew 28:20)
          2. Angels: "Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" (Hebrews 1:14)
          3. The Holy Spirit: "... the Comforter, who will be with you forever" (John 14:16)
          4. Since when you are with us? ¿Since we got to know him? No, but from our conception
            • For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called, those he called, he also justified, those he justified, he also glorified.(Romans 8:29-30 )
            • Listen to me, coasts and remote villages! The Lord called me from the womb of my mother; He took into account my name before I was born. ( Isaiah 49:1 )
            • ¨Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart, I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.¨ (Jeremiah 1:5)
            • However, God had set me apart from my mother 's womb and called me by his grace. And when he saw fit  16  to reveal his Son so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult with anyone. ( Galatians 1:15-16)
      4. God's comfort may take you to die to yourself
        Consolation is not always the restoration of the dream you want, but it´s death and replacement with God's will and plans for you.
        1. "If anyone wants to follow me , he must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. (Matthew 16:24)
        2.   Whoever does not hate his life ... (John 12:25)
        3. Whoever loses because of my ...  (Mark 8:35)
        4. Blessed are you when they revile you (Matthew 5:11)
        5.  Count it all joy when you are in evidence (James 1:2)
        6.   It is better to suffer for doing good (1 Peter 3:13-18)

          b.         When I was suffering because of the family that was harboring my dad, "I'm working in you the fruits of the spirit"
              c.         Comfort to the offenses of others, "all my wrongdoings" ... "act for my good"
              d.         Comfort to marital problems: "He is sufficient for me to be happy"
             e.         Comfort to my failure "view of a rocket"
              f.         Comfort to my frustration: "I am committed to your purpose"
              g.         Comfort before the rejection of friends: "I am, I'm behind the circumstances"
      6. Ways to receive it with a counselor
        1. Shapes
          1. prophetic word:

          4. Giving word of the Bible: "God saw you in your mother's womb"
          5. Leading the imagination: if humiliation or trauma.

      1. When you understand, through the consolation that the bad episode in your life "worked for your good" and it was the "good, pleasing and perfect" will of God.
        God all things work together for good to those who love him , who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28)
